Our Process
Whether designing, building or maintaining a garden for a residential customer, commercial client, or health care facility we provide the same high level of thorough, professional service and skilfully handle every aspect of the project. The following is an outline of the Spaces to grow design and build process:
- - Meet with the client and offer preliminary design ideas, discussing options for colours, themes, functions and how much time the client wants to spend caring for their new garden – a 50% deposit is requested on design deliverable.
- - Conduct a preliminary site assessment and study the existing landscape to determine what elements of the softscape (such as trees and shrubs) and hardscape (such as paths and decks) are already in place and which can be retained. Check amount of sunlight and quality of soil. Take measurements and photos of site.
- - Present the garden design to the client, including: a scale drawing of the proposed garden; style photographs of similar gardens; photographs of the recommended plants; photographs of hardscape features (for example, an arbour); samples of hardscape elements such as brick or masonry; a complete quote and implementation schedule for the project; and information about the level of effort and cost to maintain the garden once it has been installed. Garden design approved - the client pays the second half of the design fee.
- - Once a client has accepted a design, they pay 50% of the projected costs to build the garden.
- - The team prepares the site, removing the old softscape and hardscape debris and marking the site with the new layout.
- - Once the client has approved the layout on site, we begin implementation; the hardscape is installed including elements such as, decks, walls, grills and water gardens. Services from trades such as plumbing, gas lines, and electrical work are performed by qualified sub-contractors.
- - Softscape elements are delivered and planted at the client site.
- - The final touch of high quality mulch with compost is added to beautify the appearance, keep weeds down and nourish the soil.
- - Once all work is complete and the client has accepted the garden, Spaces to Grow receives their final payment.
